NIH Establishes a Center to Study Serious Symptoms After Vaccination or Infection

NIH announced a Vaccinology and Immunology Center within NIAID’s existing Vaccine Research Center clinic to investigate serious health problems reported after vaccination and long-term symptoms following infection. NIH marked the center’s establishment on October 5, but is still finalizing the protocol and expects to launch the study before the end of 2026 with several hundred participants initially. Researchers plan to examine symptoms, immune responses, alternative causes, risk factors and possible treatment approaches. The center is a research study—not proof that a reported condition was caused by vaccination, not a population incidence estimate and not a walk-in or routine-care clinic. Eligibility, protocol registration, comparator design, enrollment and published findings will determine what it establishes.
